OUR STORY

Re·creation, inspired by the Audre Lorde poem of the same name, is an anthology of poems by queer poets. The title has its roots in play, refreshment, recovery, restoration, invigoration, and creating, all of which are long overdue in a Covid-affected world, particularly for those in the LGBTQIA+ community. Re·creation seeks out the expression of the personal and the political, inviting submissions particularly from BIPOC poets within Scotland and beyond.

With the Edinburgh-based Stewed Rhubarb Press, this project intends to inspire, mentor, and promote queer writers, and publish a new collection of queer poetry. Our aim is to support creatives affected by the pandemic and give a platform to marginalised poets in a landmark poetry collection, by facilitating queer perspectives on their personal lives as a political reality.

One of the pivotal aspects of this project is that we will be including a workshop element, run by an external facilitator, to provide contributors with a developmental as well as networking opportunity. We will also offer 1-to-1 mentorship to a select section of new and emerging poets. All chosen contributors will also be invited to a round-table feedback session to review and refine their anthology pieces. These extra development opportunities are intended to provide support to often underrepresented groups (e.g. parents and carers, or those outside of academia and the literary sector). These professional development opportunities will be held online.

By working alongside Stewed Rhubarb Press, we will be creating a new opportunity for queer creatives across intersections of identity, prioritising a Scottish literary economy, and disseminating a new object of interest for readers within and outside the LGBTQIA+ community.
